Dell® Xps® M1730 Laptop Review
Product Review Summary
Features:
Dell XPS™ M1730 is a gaming laptop that has inspired its competitors to come up with something revolutionary against it. It is a gaming device with the very presence of the NVIDIA SLI chipset ably supported by a unique built-in physics card from Ageia. It has an option for a Blu-ray™ drive. With a 2.8-GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Extreme X7900 processor, user can over-clock the processor by adjusting the clock frequency in the BIOS. With it’s pulsating color-shifting LED and additional lighting effects under the keyboard and behind the lid, the Dell XPS™ M1730 starts an entirely new league of gaming laptops giving it an edge over it’s competitors.
Usability:
The speed and ease with which Windows Vista® Home Premium operates on the Dell XPS™ M1730 is unlike we have seen anything till date. Software installation is very fast as compared to any other laptop in its category. File writing speed on to the hard drive, high speed photo shop scripting and video-encoding seem to be even better than the mighty Alienware®, but the lighting effect causes a relatively higher power consumption. The most important feature of all is its 3D graphics processing capability that is powered by NVIDIA.

In this review we take a detailed look at the Dell XPS™ M1730. The Dell XPS™ M1730 is easily one of the most powerful machines you can lay your hands on. Backed by its superior lighting system and the very cool and powerful built in Ageia PhysX card, the machine looks stylish and packs a mean power punch as well. Dell XPS™ M1730 has carved out a special place in the hardcore gamers’ hearts and is now a desired commodity as a desktop replacement.
Here is a review of the Top 5 features of this product:
FIVE –
It has an impressive storage space with two 200GB, 7200-rpm SATA hard drives with a CPU and SLI graphics card combo. The extreme X7900 is over-clockable from 2.8GHz to 3.4 GHz. Latest fully tested drivers can be downloaded through the Rapid Driver Update program. However, the machine is chunky at 16 x 11.9 x 2 inches and weighs in at an astonishing 11 pounds.
FOUR –
Apart from being an obvious powerhouse, the machine also has a small gaming LCD on the keyboard deck that acts as a strong gaming component and gives additional details about your game character. However, it works with the G15 gaming keyboard only. While you are not gaming, the same LCD acts as a system resource monitor.
THREE –
The Dell XPS™ M1730 has excellent sound quality and is pretty loud as well. Graphics are provided by two discrete NVIDIA GeForce 8700 GS cards, linked via SLI._ It features four USB ports for easier connection of peripherals, media buttons to control playback and volume and a card reader that accepts eight of the most common formats, including SD and xD-Picture.
TWO –
A very useful feature is the LED-backlighting that helps especially in low lighting conditions. Even the touchpad colors can be customized with 12 colors. The keyboard backlight is white and cannot be changed, but, can be adjusted for brightness or turned off completely to conserve battery life. All of the lights are either customizable or can be disabled.
ONE –
One of the best features of the M1730 is its 3D graphics powered by the built-in physics card from Ageia, which even the mighty Alienware® lacks. It provides an un-paralleled sense of realism for 3D games by enriching details based on the movement of different objects. The Ageia PhysX Card is a new technology that has not yet been widely adapted in the gaming industry, but has helped the Dell XPS™ M1730 to claim the throne as one of the most dominant and sought after gaming rigs.
We at iYogi, have come to a conclusion that the Dell XPS™ M1730 has good styling and little or no faults. Good anticipated performance and glamorous aesthetics make it an object of desire.
So If you are an avid gamer with an ever increasing hunger for more and more gaming power, a professional graphic artist looking for power and design inspiration or a 3D renderer who needs brute processing power, the Dell XPS™ M1730 is the one for you.
