Tips to Restore Factory Settings in Dell XPS M1330

The Dell XPS M1330 comes to us loaded with a new feature called PC Restore. This feature helps the user to revert the pc back to its original factory settings configuration in the event of a system crash, malfunction or undesired modification on the part of the user. Dell has introduced this feature in collaboration with the Symantec labs ltd. The laptop hard drive has a separate partition on which the Symantec software which supports this feature is installed. This software program is installed on a separate partition so that the user can make use of this feature even if the normal partitions fail to operate.

The following will help you to restore the pc in case of a malfunction:

  • Events that demands a Restore
  • Things to be done before a Restore
  • How to Restore
  • Setting up your pc after a Restore

Events that demand a Restore

There are certain events that would demand a system or PC Restore to ensure continuous safe operation of the system. A system crash would normally occur because of various reasons like corrupt operating system, virus or malware infection or any potentially unwanted modifications by the user. In case of an unrecoverable system crash where the recovery tools provided by the operating system or any other software programs are of no use, it is recommended that the user make use of this feature from Dell to restore the system back to its original configuration.

Things to be done before a Restore

Before attempting a complete PC Restore you need to complete some recommended steps that are needed to ensure the effective restoration of factory settings in the laptop. The first thing to keep in mind is to backup all the necessary user data and applications as the PC Restore completely wipes off all the user settings which includes all user installed applications and custom settings done by the user. You need to make sure that the recovery partition is intact and working. A PC Restore is done as a last resort to recover a corrupt system from its obsolete state.

How to Restore

You should make sure that the power cord is plugged into the wall outlet or whether there is enough charge in the laptop battery. While switching on the system a screen showing a blue colored bar saying Dell.com will appear on the screen, press ‘Ctl’+'F11′ when you see that bar. If you fail to press the keys at the right time, attempt another restart of the system to complete the step. When you have successfully pressed the aforesaid keys the system will display another screen showing a Restore option. Click on the Restore button and follow the on screen instructions for a successful Restore of the system. A Restore might take around ten minutes of your time so be patient and don’t shut down or reboot the system until it shows a finish button which will restart the computer to its factory settings.

Setting up after a Restore

After the restore the computer is set to its factory setting so the operating system might ask you to confirm the user license agreement as it was when you first got the system. After all things are done it might restart again and you need to fill in all the details regarding account names, passwords etc. You will have to perform all the necessary installation and updates of the system drivers and applications to ensure continued safety and performance of your system.
