Dell® launches its new Social Media Operations Center for Humanitarian Relief
For providing efficient management during disaster situations, Dell has launched a new Digital Operations Center in collaboration with the American Red Cross. It is going to be the first social media-based operation that will utilize the wide ranging sphere of social media for providing humanitarian relief during emergency situations.
The Red Cross is looking forward to cooperate with Dell to enable better communication during disasters. “The use of social media during disasters has grown exponentially in recent years, and this partnership with Dell will enable us to better understand and anticipate disaster needs and help connect people with the resources they need during emergencies,” said Gail J. McGovern, president and CEO, Red Cross.
The media operations are based on Dell Social Media Listening Command Center, which offers consultancy services. It will significantly help the Red Cross to engage with the public in a much more efficient way during any form of disaster. The recent tests conducted in the Midwest area affected by tornadoes included heat maps that can visualize spikes and even create relevant themes in social media for contributing towards relief-response strategies.
The Dell Digital Operations Center will be instrumental to the Red Cross in the following ways:
• Providing added information from the affected areas during emergencies for better coordination with the Red Cross
• Finding the current social trends for better anticipation of public needs
• Helping to connect the affected people with the relief resources like food, water, etc.
