Dell has announced further development in its groundbreaking Fluid Data architecture that is one of the latest data storage solutions from the company. The disclosure was made at the first Dell Storage Forum event held in London during January 9–12, this year.

New advancements in the architecture offer features such as backup for removal of duplicate entries and records from the database. The feature can be very useful while collaborating two and more databases. The deduplication and compression is supported by Ocarina Networks (the new acquisition by Dell), PowerConnect and Brocade storage networking solutions, Dell Force10, and the storage optimization technology for Microsoft SharePoint.
“Today’s IT organizations are moving faster than ever down a road that is constantly changing. That’s why their data needs to be as dynamic as their business. With Dell’s new primary, archive and backup storage solutions, the Dell Fluid Data architecture delivers the storage intelligence customers need to deal with a sea of constant IT change without driving up costs, wasting time or continually replacing infrastructure,” said Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager, Dell Enterprise Storage.
A new Dell DR4000 Storage Platform has also been introduced to facilitate the same level of reliability that a disk-based solution offers. This online platform helps the users to eliminate the duplicity and to keep the data online for longer periods such as weeks and months before finally archiving it. It would also help to reduce the overall cost of ownership (TCO). The platform is highly suitable for small and mid-sized enterprises and remote offices.
Some other solutions such as Dell Compellent Storage Center 6.0 were also disclosed during the event, aimed at improving performance and scalability of applications and processes. For complete details on the developments, read the press release from Dell.
