Why am I not able to access wireless connectivity to the Internet from my Dell Inspiron?

The Dell Inspiron product line features lightweight and slim laptops packed with great features. The standard features of an Inspiron laptop are Intel® Core technology, integrated webcam, Hi Def display, Bluetooth®, juiced by a 6 cell battery. Accessing the Internet using your wireless modem in your Dell Inspiron laptop is a breeze. This is the case most of the times, however, you may sometimes face situations where you are not satisfied with the speed or the connection just gets disconnected again and again repeatedly and at other times, no matter what you do, the laptop just won’t connect to the Internet. If you are sure that the wires are properly connected then, the common reasons for such problems are:

  • Driver problem
  • Improper connection settings
  • Router problems

Driver problem

Sometimes, the wireless driver of your Dell Inspiron laptop has some problem in it and in such situations you will have problems connecting to the Internet. The best solution in case of this problem is to uninstall the existing driver which comes preinstalled with the laptop. Visit Dell® website and go to support. There you can find the latest drivers for your laptop. Download the proper driver which is suited for your model of Dell Inspiron.

Improper connection settings

When you get the laptop, the connection settings are set correctly and so you will not face any problems connecting to the Internet. But when installing third party software, they tend to sometimes alter these settings. These alterations can bring about problems in connecting to the Internet. Correct these settings and you are back to surfing the net with ease. You can check the settings by clicking on ‘Start’ then go to ‘Control Panel’ and click ‘Network and Internet’. Click on ‘Network and Sharing Center’ and enter into ‘Manage Network Connections’. Now right click on the connection and review its settings.

Router problems

Check the router that you are using, if you are not able to connect to the Internet at all, because some old routers are not compatible with Windows Vista® or Windows® 7. Router configuration also must be proper in order for the connection to be established. You can check the router configuration by opening Internet Explorer® and typing in the address of your router in the address field of the browser. Type in your username and password given in the manual and you can access the management page.
