Inspiron-13z
Do you know when your Dell Inspiron 13z graphics card needs to be updated? A graphic card is a hardware device that allows the user to interact with a computer system. It enables him or her to view the process executions that are taking place in the CPU. Different models and versions exist and one computer can support not all. Their performance mainly determined by the operating system, RAM capacity and CPU speed. The need to upgrade a graphics card in Dell Inspiron 13z laptop and the issues that can come are discussed in the following points.
  • How graphic cards functions.
  • Types of Inspiron 13z graphic cards.
  • Models.
  • Upgrading.
  • Issues with the upgrade.
  • Solving the issues.
How graphic cards functions
The card is slotted on the motherboard and is supported by software known as the driver. The signals generated in the form of text and graphics are then out put to the monitor. The clarity of the output largely depends on the number of pixels supported. Images generated are in the form of two-dimensional or three-dimensional.
Types of Inspiron 13z graphic cards
Depending on the manufacturer and user needs, varieties are available. The inbuilt graphic cards on the motherboard referred to as graphics controller and functions in basic outputs i.e. normal text and pictures. For gaming and entertainment, a much more powerful dedicated card is available at extra costs. These are cards with graphics processing units.
Models
The different types of video cards are Intel Graphics X4500MHD, Intel Accelerator X4500MHD and 512MB NVIDIA G 105M. The type and model depend on the laptop version. Their performance hinges on the amount of RAMs dedicated to them. The more the memory space the faster the output.
Upgrading
Switching from the basic card supplied by the vendor to a much faster and better card is an upgrade. Several reasons may make a user change the default video card supplied as better graphic quality, especially for graphic designers, software specifications of user’s applications as games and Win 7 that will require true color and a fast performing card.
Issues with the upgrade
The notebook performance may be compromised, as more system resources will be utilized in supporting the new upgrade leaving less for other tasks. Getting the right device driver to support as it may differ from the manufacturer’s specification defaults. Compatibility with the operating system may cause the card not function to its full capacity. The costs of acquiring third party application programs could be high making the user to dig deeper into their pocket. Heating may result as a consequence as the CPU will work at a faster rate than normal.
Solving the issues
The interface between the video card and application programs is the device driver. Constantly upgrading the software may be much better than looking for a new hardware. It is cheaper as some of the necessary fixes for the card to meet new application and hardware requirements are available as part of the download.
